Women's Self-defense Workshop

If a bad guy gets the drop on you, you won’t have a whole lot of time to think about your response. For technique to be effective against a larger aggressor with intent, your reaction must be pre-programmed, without hesitation, violent, and explosive. You will have had to have rehearsed your reaction/counterattack a lot of times, if not physically, at least in your head.

“Change the channel”

Use distractionary techniques to change the bad guy’s channel. You need to stack the odds in your favor. If all the bad guy has to think about is what he wants to accomplish with you he will have the advantage. If he is thinking of throwing you to ground and the next thought in his mind is the searing pain in his eye balls because you stuck your nails in his eyes, he will be at less of an advantage. So use a distraction to take his mind off the prize and set him behind the eight ball.

Lessons from the animal kingdom

Travel in a packs, I’m sure you watched the discovery channel, you’ve seen the lions circle the herd. The lion will typically go after the young or injured prey that’s on the outskirts of the group. I have to make it clear, it’s never the victim’s fault. But there are some things we can do to deter the predator. Don’t look like prey, don’t walk around with your head down looking at your smart phone, walk tall, make eye contact, and let the predator know that you see them and that they would have an easier time with someone else.
